Getting a shy student to speak in public is a challenge in itself, add on that they are an ESL student that needs to speak in a foreign language, and you may begin to feel that they are facing Mount Everest. But, these activities could be useful in helping you climb that mountain. The change won't happen overnight, but some of the most experienced motivational speakers are still nervous before performing, so your goal shouldn't be to eliminate the fear, only to minimize it to a manageable level.

Use games - Everyone loves games and they are great tools for lowering stress levels. So if you're trying to get a shy foreigner to speak in English a game could be the perfect activity.
